Our Story
Well.. to really break everything down to the reason for this blog.. this is about family, my family after leaving home, which starts with Josh. Josh and I met when I was 17ish and he was 20. We dated all through college and got married 7 years later. He balances my right brain, snarky, introverted, borderline agoraphobic tendencies with his incredibly kind hearted, gregarious, yet unwaveringly pragmatic nature.
It sounds so cliche to say " I married my best friend", but it's true. I do feel he got the short end of the stick, but what are you going to do!
I will be honest.. without Josh I would have never had children. I don't hate kids, but let's just say I am not a huge fan of theirs. They tend to be sticky, loud, and repeating the same sentence over and over. Somewhere along the road, I knew that if I marry this man I am going to have to give him kids. Some future child deserves to have this wonderful man as a father.
After 5 years of trying to conceive, our doctor, not seeing anything wrong, advised us to take a trip and get away from the stress of our jobs and commutes. So.... we went to Mexico, had an amazing time, ate great food, met two Scottish couples that became our friends to this day and there were drinks at the resort called "Mango Tango".
Well that worked... turns out we came home with our very own Mango and Tango, which were their names until they were born as our daughter P rolled and kicked the entire time in the womb and C would occasionally give me an elbow bump to let me know she was still there.
We gave birth to our twin girls and that is when I started to truly understand the meaning of the word "tired". We were both working full time jobs. I was working as an Interior Designer and Josh.. something to do with computers and spreadsheets.
We had been renting a home for about 3 years and had looked into buying the rental house, but it was on a busy street and we could use more space for our recently doubled family!
When the girls were 6 months old I dragged Josh to see this house...
Hola Mexico!!
This was the last picture we took before going to the hospital. Josh had just finished tying my shoes for me.
Oh my goodness!! Look at the cute playground shaded by those oak trees!!
Here she is! I loved the exterior, not the poop brown color scheme, but the colonial elevation is really charming. The yard looked great and it was on a quiet street in a great neighborhood, excellent school district, and more important to Josh it had a third car garage.
There are two pools, yes, I said TWO! Plus a slide!
And then we walked inside...
So Josh had not seen any of the pictures of the inside and I could tell the house needed a lot of updating! On the first floor, alone, there were 4 different types of flooring!!
I could tell from the pictures that it looked like a great open floor plan and had a ton of potential!
Josh on the other hand, can not visualize anything! I show him floor plans and he is like "very pretty lines honey".
Then through the pool table room, aka the dining room, we walk in to the kitchen to find that our eyes did not explode regardless of what I was expecting! The dark red walls made me wonder if a murder had occurred and this was the most effective way to cover up the crime scene.
Josh had a weird look on his face and said "Are you really wanting to buy this place?" I then listed a litany of positive attributes along with what we could do to update it. First we need one floor, repaint all walls, trim, and ceilings, paint/replace cabinets and countertops, and boom just doing that will greatly improve the first floor.
